Mary Frances McDermott, age 54, a lifelong resident of Norton, passed away peacefully, following a long illness, on Monday, December 26, 2022 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.
Born in Norwood, MA on January 20, 1968, she was the loving daughter of Florence A. (Rubak) McDermott and the late James W. McDermott, Sr., who had just recently passed away in February 2022.
Mary grew up in Norton and was educated in the Norton Public Schools. She worked as a dietary aide at local nursing homes, including the former Country Haven Nursing Home in Norton and at several area manufacturing company's during her too short life.
Mary was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt and the cherished godmother to one of her nieces, Cassidy. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and always delighted in being part of big family celebrations and holidays where her wonderful generosity, kind spirit and gleefulness shone through. Always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it, Mary was a truly wonderful human being who will be missed beyond measure. Being the 3rd youngest in a family of eight children, Mary had a special and unique bond with all of her siblings and defined the true meaning of being a sister to all. Becoming an Aunt to her three nieces and six nephews gave her such joy and delight. Mary was also a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Norton and enjoyed reading, watching TV and board games.
Mary is survived by her dear mother Florence McDermott of Norton and by her siblings and in- laws: Cathy McDermott of Norton, Debbie McDermott of North Attleboro, Janet McDermott of North Attleboro, Pauline Harding and her husband Tom of New Hampshire, Susan McDermott of Norton, Jim McDermott, Jr. and his wife Robyn of Maine and Denise Briody and her husband Mike of South Easton. She was the cherished and beloved aunt of Ashley, James, Cody, Samuel, Joshua, Matthew, Emily, Nathan and Cassidy.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, January 2nd from 4:00-6:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.
Services and burial will be private and in lieu of flowers, Mary’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the La Salette Shrine, 947 Park Street, Attleboro, MA 02703.
