NORTH BROOKFIELD; Joanne I. (Pontbriand) Rockwood Cournoyer, 84, died Saturday, December 24 at her home after an illness.
She was the wife of Albert "Leo" Cournoyer who died in 2001.
She leaves a son, Kevin W. Rockwood and his wife Pamela, two daughters; Mary Jo Hevy and her husband Eric , Robin L. Rockwood all of North Brookfield, two brothers, Raymond Pontbriand and his wife Janice of Naples, FL., Jean Pontbriand and his wife Marilyn of Sturbridge, a sister, Jeannette Bourdon of Spencer, 4 grandchildren; Amanda Hevy of Auburn, Kerri Rockwood of North Brookfield, Lauren English of Canon City, CO., Brandon Hevy of Union, CT., 2 great-grandchildren, Isabella Chase of North Brookfield and James Valentine of Auburn.
She was predeceased by her first husband Laurence W. Rockwood in 1984 and two brothers, Roger and Ronald Pontbriand.
Born in Spencer, she was the daughter of Edgar & Anna (Brunelle) Pontbriand.
Joanne was a tax collector for the the Town of North Brookfield retiring in 1993. She previously worked as a bank teller at Worcester County National Bank and at the former Klevens Shoe in North Brookfield.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in North Brookfield.
She loved to cook and bake and enjoyed knitting hats, slippers, and mittens which she donated to Toys for Joy.
She enjoyed canning, woodworking projects and candle making, giving all creations away to family and friends. She also spent memorable times camping at Bourne Scenic Park on Cape Cod.
The funeral will be held Saturday, December 31 from the J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terrace, Spencer, with a Mass at 10 A.M. in St. Joseph's Church, 296 N. Main St., North Brookfield. A calling hour will precede the Mass from 8:30 to 9:30 A.M. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Elm St., North Brookfield.
