Obituary

John D. "Jack" De Veuve, 89, of Westport, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022, at home with family around him. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Bette (Fernald) DeVeuve.

Born in Boston the only son of the late Carl J. and Gertrude M. (Curtin) DeVeuve, he has lived in Westport since 1986. He was the owner/operator of the former Lotterro and Mason electrical engineering firm in Boston.

For the last 25 years he and Bette enjoyed perpetual summer, snowbirding in Cocoa, Florida and summering in Westport. They enjoyed walking the beaches, swimming, and kayaking together. Watching the space shuttle and other launches from the Kennedy space Center continued to be a remarkable event for them.

Jack was a lifelong bowler even surprising himself with recent high scores. He was a well-known figure on his bike in his Florida community and was often seen locally breezing along East Beach Road and the Horseneck Beach bike trail. In his 80s he joined the Dharma rowing community and love rowing crew on the Westport River. Playing poker with the guys and card games with the family was a favorite pastime. One of his proudest local contributions was serving on the committee for the new fire station project. Business associates, friends and family will always remember him as a practical joker, giving is good as he got.

Jack was a proud veteran, having served in the Navy during the Korean War, and was seen sporting around Westport in his convertible with his long white braid flying under his Tin Can Sailor ball cap.

Jack was pre-deceased by his oldest son, Gregg M. DeVeuve. He is survived by his daughter Dr. Lori D. DeVeuve of Eastham; David T. DeVeuve and his wife Carol of Hopkinton; Amy L. DeVeuve and her husband William McAvoy of Hopkinton; Brian J. DeVeuve and his wife Susan of South Weymouth; daughter-in-law Susan DeVeuve of Hanson; and seven grandchildren: Michael, Devin, Jason, Adam, Mae, Abby and Patricia.

Visitation will be monday, January 2, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please do a kindness for a stranger.
