Samuel J. “Sam” Gaglio, age 84, of Norton, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, December 25, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Carol A. (Ewing) Gaglio, to whom he was wed for thirty-six years.
Born in Boston, MA on June 21, 1938, he was a loving son of the late Antonio and Anna (Calabro) Gaglio.
Sam grew up in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston and was a graduate of Hyde Park High School. During the time of the of the Vietnam War, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. Following two years of faithful service, he was honorably discharged on September 28, 1959 with the rank of E-3 Seaman.
Prior to retiring, Sam worked hard for many years as a rigger for Glancy Crane & Rigging in Stoughton. He had made his home in Norton for over thirty and was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Norton.
Sam’s family was truly his greatest gift in life, and he was loved dearly by them and all who knew him. He was an avid New England sports fan, the Boston Red Sox being his favorite team to cheer on. He also enjoyed playing cribbage at the Plainville Senior Center and making new friends while tinkering around on the computer.
In addition to his beloved wife Carol, he is survived by his devoted children: David Vrane and his longtime companion Sue Murphy of California, Christopher Gaglio and his wife Ginger of Falmouth, Edmund “Ted” Gaglio of Plymouth and Samantha Wolk and her husband Nicholas of Norton. He was the cherished grandfather of Jared Gaglio, Amanda Mcloud and Matthew Wolk. He was the dear brother of the late Peter Gaglio, Roy Gaglio, Theresa Feeley, Paul Gaglio, Richard Gaglio, Lillian Hughey, Linda Gaglio and is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, January 2nd from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 3rd at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 1 Power Street, Norton. Military honors will be rendered at the conclusion of services. Burial will be at a later date at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
In lieu of flowers, Sam’s family has requested that donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3 Speen Street #250, Framingham, MA 01701.
