Anthony Marcella, age 70, of Malden passed away on Friday, December 23rd. Born in Palermiti, Italy, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Paola (Sestito) Marcella. Anthony immigrated to the U.S. at the age of nine, when his family settled in Boston’s North End. Anthony proudly served in the Army during the Vietnam War, and after returning to civilian life and marrying his beloved wife Lidia (Guglielmi), moved to Malden.
Anthony was co-owner and operator of an auto body repair company. He enjoyed seeing friends, and frequently attended Club Italia in Malden. Anthony would help anyone and never said no to someone in need. He loved dancing with his wife at parties, and adored his family.
Anthony was the devoted father of Joseph Marcella and his wife Christine of Sharon, and Paula Giovinco and her husband Calogero of Malden. He was the loving grandfather of Anthony, Daniel and Luke Marcella, and Paolo Antonio Giovinco. Anthony was the dear brother of Stella Russo and her husband Mario of Lynnfield, Rosemarie Correia and her husband Frank of Revere, and the late Pasquale “Patsy” Marcella. He was the cherished uncle of Sandro Russo and his wife Nadia, Stefano Russo and his wife Elizabeth, Alberto Russo and his wife Sandra, Paul Anthony Correia and his wife Samantha, and Alexandro Correia. Anthony was the great uncle of Valentina, Mario, Marco, Gabriele, Elena, Albert Jr., Massimo and Alessia,, and brother-in-law of Ivo Guglielmi of Malden and the late Dante and Pierino Guglielmi. He is survived by nieces and nephews Michael Guglielmi, his wife Kerry, and their children Michael Jr. and Brittany; Larena Bates, her husband Don, and their children Nicole and Kevin; and Jason and Jamie Guglielmi. He is also survived by many more loving relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023 at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with family on Monday, January 2nd, from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
