Obituary

Matthew A. Kilroe, 84, formerly of Norwood, passed away peacefully on December 21, following a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of the late Sheila (O’Connor) Kilroe who passed in 1994.

Matthew was born on September 15, 1938 in Curragh Fuerty, Co. Roscommon, Ireland to the late John J. and Mary J. (Brannelly) Kilroe. He later came to America in 1957 where he settled in Jamaica Plain.

He worked for his Uncle at Brannelly’s Café for several years while also serving in the Army before becoming a police officer for the City of Boston in 1966. He was a detective and was well respected by his peers and made many lasting friendships.

Matthew enjoyed racquetball, gardening, and dancing, often at Concannon’s. He was well known for his wit and charming personality.

He is survived by his son John M. Kilroe and his wife Lisa of Franklin, his daughter Sheila M. Goggin and her husband Christopher of Duxbury, and his son Paul A. Kilroe of South Boston. Also survived by his loving grandchildren, Matthew, Meghan, Kathleen, and James Kilroe and Christopher and Sheila Goggin.

Matthew was the fifth of sixteen children and is predeceased by his twin brothers Jim and John and his sisters Mary, Lena and Catherine. He will be dearly missed by his siblings Loretta of Norwood, Bridie, Patricia, Barbara, Carmel, Paddy, Albert, Kay, Dolores and Marty all of Ireland.

Matthew is fondly remembered by his many cousins, nieces and nephews here and abroad. He is sadly missed by his dear friend Nonie Golden and her children of Ireland.

His funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 31 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Church Square, Franklin, Ma. Livestream available at stmarysfranklin.org

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Norwood.

Calling hours will be on Friday from 3-7 p.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin.
