Margie K. Towery died peacefully in her sleep the morning of December 20. She fought back courageously from two strokes in late November, but in the end the struggle was just too much.
Margie was born January 25, 1922, in Inglewood, CA to Jack and Kathryn Howley. She graduated from Washington High School in 1939. At a church social, she met the love of her life, Beverly Towery. They married in 1942, enjoying a long, loving marriage until Bev's passing in 1995. Margie and Bev had two sons, Stephen (Suzanne) and Greg (Michele). Margie was blessed with four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
After her sons married and left home, Margie and Bev moved to Ventura where she enjoyed making new friends. They joined Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. Margie enjoyed playing bridge in several different groups. She enjoyed her YLI group, even attending meetings up until she suffered her strokes. She and Bev also enjoyed traveling, including a cruise to Alaska and a train trip across Canada.
From an early age, Margie loved camping. She camped with her dad and mom and then taught her husband and sons the joys of being in the wilderness. She especially loved spending time in the Redwoods. An avid reader, Margie volunteered many hours at the Ventura Public Library. When her eyesight failed, she continued to read by listening to audiobooks. Movies had also been a favorite pastime; she and grandson Dan spent many a night watching vintage black and white classics.
It is noteworthy that Margie was able to remain in her own home because of the grandson Dan who lived with her until a couple months shy of her one hundred first birthday.
