Don was a lifelong resident of North Stonington, and veteran of the United States Navy. Don’s experience in the Navy played a very important role in his life. He served four years aboard the submarine the USS Spikefish, SS404, and spent time in South America, and Europe. He would often explain to his loved ones that his time in the Navy taught him the value of discipline, teamwork, and investing in a cause greater than himself. After leaving the Navy, Don started a 35-year career with Pfizer as a Production Supervisor in Pfizer’s Chemical Division.
Don was an active member of the SHP community. He enjoyed planning summertime picnics and holiday parties for the SHP community. He was also an avid bowler and ten-year member of the North Stonington Bowling League at Westerly’s Alley Katz Bowling Center. His wife Pat competed in bowling tournaments across the United States, and he spent a lot of his time cheering her team on wherever they went.
As a young man, Don had a passion for cars and motorcycles. His most prized possession was his Honda Goldwing Motorcycle. He made trips to Florida never taking the direct route but would always meander through the Southeastern United States to admire the Country he loved. Don also enjoyed gardening and had an abundant garden that he shared with friends and family.
Don’s family will greet relatives and friends in a private service at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic Downtown Mystic.
