Obituary

Steven J. Lunny, 67, of New Bedford died Thursday, December 22, 2022 at home surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Moinheiro) Lunny.

Born in New Bedford, son of the late John Lunny and the late Hilda (Mello) Branco and her husband Gilbert, he was raised in Dartmouth and lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

Steven was a graduate of Dartmouth High School, Class of 1973. He was great athlete and was inducted into the Dartmouth High School Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011.

He was formerly employed by Union Tobacco, Alpert Brothers, and then as a sales manager for Lesco Distributors. He was later employed as a custodian at the Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School.

Steven enjoyed going to the beach and watching all types of sports, especially his Dallas Cowboys. He loved to spend time with his best friend - his wife Patty, his children, and especially his two granddaughters, who were "his beans" and brought him the most joy. He also loved attending his granddaughters' sporting events.

Prior to his passing, Steven left some advice: "Be kind, do the little things, tell others everyday that you love them and laugh as much as you can." - that laugh!

He is survived by his wife Patricia; his daughter, Sarah Gussis and her husband Glenn; his son, Zachary Lunny and his wife Ashley; two granddaughters, Lylah and Chloe Gussis; two Godchildren, Valerie Kollars and Jacob Marks; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Colleen Rodrigues.

Patty would like to thank Zach and Sarah, the Telemetry Ward at Charlton Memorial Hospital, Southcoast VNA Hospice, Steven's good friend Bruce Almeida, and his barber Jose for their help caring for him during his illness.

His visitation will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 2-6 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, donations in Steven's memory may be made to FreeLake Youth Softball and mailed c/o Glenn Gussis, 9 Azel Rd., East Freetown, MA 02717.
