Josephine M. Mucci, a longtime Woburn resident formerly of Somerville, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at the age of 74. Born in Corsagna, Italy she was the daughter of the late Edi and Frimola (Giusti) Pieroni.
"Jo", as she was affectionately known to her family and friends, was raised and educated in Somerville and was a 1967 graduate of Somerville High School. She was a passionate life-long learner and educator. Jo taught and supported every age from pre-school to the work she did for the past 30 years at Middlesex Community College as a reading and literacy specialist, Director of Academic Support and finally as the Director of First Year Experiences. Her life was focused on her children, her family, her faith and our many pets including her Guinness, and encouraging and supporting those around her. She loved to learn and be in the world by exploring it through travel, living her culture and facing each day with fierce curiosity. She was passionate about reading, her plants and gardening, currents events, the animals that would visit her backyard including "her" chipmunks and deer and baking and cooking for her family. Above all else she gave herself to her children and her family and she would always look to find the good in people and in situations and she always held onto hope even in hard times. If you were loved by Jo, you knew it. She was a beautiful force in the world that will never be replaced.
Jo is survived by her devoted children, Jeneen Mucci of Somerville, John Mucci and his wife Kassia of Somerville. Sister of the late Madeline Pieroni. Loving aunt of George Hachey of Somerville, Laurie Michelangelo of Wilmington and Michele Gasper of North Andover. She is further survived by her beloved dog Guinness, grand-dog Honey and grand-cat RG.
