Yongwoo Lee, 60, of Salem, MA, passed away on Dec. 19, 2022 after fighting lung cancer for three years. He was a spiritual mentor to many, an accomplished chemistry researcher/ Professor, and beloved husband and father to a 6-yr-old.
Born to Kijong Lee and Kwangsoon Han, in Seoul, S. Korea, he was the last of five children. He earned his B.S. from Sogang Univ. and M.S. in Organic Chemistry from Kyunghee Univ.. He moved to the States and earned a Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve Univ.. He worked at KIST, NASA, Los Alamos National Laboratory, MIT, the U.S. Naval research lab in Washington DC, and Foster-Miller in Waltham, MA. As a professor, he taught at George Mason Univ., Salem State Univ., U Mass Lowell, and Sogang Univ..
His passion for Christian ministry yielded changing lifestyles for prostitutes and gang members in China. He was a man of prayers who truly carried the presence of the holy spirit and was widely knowledgeable of theological debates and inspirational literature. After mentoring and devoting numerous years in Christian ministry, he met his wife Meeyong Lee in Boston and married her in 2013.
He is survived by his wife and a daughter Charlotte Lee of Salem, MA. Many people remember him as a devoted spiritual leader who loved Jesus so much and inspired many by his words and life.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem, on Monday, Dec. 26, 2022 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. His funeral service will be in St. Stephen United Methodist Church, 67 Cornell Rd., Marblehead, MA 01945 on Tuesday, Dec. 27th at 11:00 AM, followed by his burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
