Arlene T. (Foley) Munro passed away peacefully with family by her side on December 20th. She was 93. Born in South Boston, she was the daughter of the late James H. and Grace (LaPorte) Foley. As a young lady her family settled in Medford, where she attended school and graduated from Medford High School. Arlene served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. She enjoyed working and always kept busy. Arlene worked as a telephone operator and in retail sales at the iconic Woolworth Co. She had a great sense of service to others and it dovetailed well with the years she drove special children to school and volunteered at the Medford Senior Center, where she was a strong advocate for senior citizens.
Arlene was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Although she had a strong work ethic she had an even stronger family ethic. She worked hard to help provide for her family, she looked forward to spending time with her children, grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She enjoyed travelling with family and friends. Her travel was extensive both at home and overseas. She was also a great enthusiast for classical arts. She read a composed poetry, watched classic films and listened to and attended the opera.
The beloved wife of the late Barton L. Munro, Arlene was a devoted mother to Paula Sacco and her husband Leo of Medford, Susan Wallerce and her husband Alan, Barton L. Munro, Jr. and his wife June of Ipswich, and Janet Munro Thomas and her husband Jerry Thomas of Derry, NH. She was a loving grandmother to Alyssa, Alisson, Alan Jr., Loren, Ryan, Jacqueline and Josephine and a loving great-grandmother to Grace, Jackson, Hailey, Lily, Griffin, Dillinger, Valentina, Rose, Kingston, Liam, Huxley Mae, Elle and Killian.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, Friday, December 23 from 9 – 11 AM, followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West Medford at 11:30 AM. Burial service will be on Tuesday, December 27th at 10:45 AM in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
