Obituary

WORCESTER__ Barbara A. Cashman, 86, died on Monday, December 19, 2022, in Notre Dame Long-Term Care Center. She was predeceased by her husband, James J. Cashman, who died in 2007.

She is survived by her three sons, Scott Cashman and his fiancé Shannon Clark, Gary Cashman and James “Jay” Cashman, all of Worcester, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was born in Holden, the daughter of the late Carl and Ann (Chiras) Mattson.

Barbara was a graduate of the former Commerce High School and attended Clark University and the Worcester Art Museum School. Barbara was a well-educated, dynamic and accomplished person. Barbara worked for the City of Worcester’s Auditor’s office for 23 years, and while working for the City, served as union steward for the city clerks. In addition, she owned and operated her own tax preparation business on Grafton Hill, Tax Data, LLC. Barbara passed the Internal Revenue Service “Enrolled Agent” exam which allowed her to represent taxpayers before the IRS. She was always active in her community and cared about her neighbors. For many years Barbara was involved in the Grafton Hill Business Association and the Grafton Hill Neighborhood Association. A woman of strong faith and spirit, she was a longtime member of St. Stephen Church. Barbara enjoyed life. In her younger years she was a member of the Lithuanian Drum Corps and studied art and design. In later years, she enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, bible study and bingo. Barbara loved to travel and fulfilled her life-long dream to visit Italy. Barbara was very charitably inclined and strongly believed that regardless of means one should try to help others. She had a big heart and loved children.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the care givers at Homestead Hall and Notre Dame Long-term Care Centers. Their kindness and attention to Barbara during her final years was greatly appreciated.

A visitation will be on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 5:00 to 7 :00 pm in DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., Worcester, MA. A funeral will be held with a Mass on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at 10:00 AM in St. Stephen Church, 357 Grafton St., Worcester, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Notre Dame Long Term Care, 559 Plantation St. Worcester, MA 01605 or Homestead House 10 Homestead Ave, Worcester, MA 01610
