Salem: Charles R. Ingraham, Jr., age 81 of Salem, died peacefully Saturday morning at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Anita (Blais) Ingraham. The couple were to celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary in June of this year.
Born and raised in Danvers, he was the son of the late Charles R. Ingraham, Sr., and Margaret Mason Ingraham. A veteran of W.W. II, he served in France & Belgium in a medical unit for the Army’s Battery C, 757th Field Artillery Battalion. Following the war, he returned to Danvers and worked, with his father, at the former Naumkeag Auto Sales in Beverly.
Shortly after his marriage in 1951, he moved to Salem and began working for C.F. Hallin Co. of Salem. He later became parts manager for Motor Parts Sales, also of Salem. In 1977 Mr. Ingraham co-founded Yankee Auto Parts in Marblehead. He retired from that company in 1986.
Charles was an avid tennis player throughout his life and was well known in the local tennis circut. With his aggressive style and competitive spirit, he captured many coveted titles in both singles and doubles championships over the years. He enjoyed playing cribbage and was a lifelong Red Sox fan. Charles was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish of Salem.
"He gave our family a love that will be with us forever," said his daughters. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 daughters: Kathleen M. Petrowicz and her husband John of Rowley, Layne M. Costa and her husband Gary of W. Newbury, Joan M. Ingraham of Salem, a brother: Don M. Ingraham and his wife Thelma of Danvers, 5 grandchildren: Brian, Jeffrey & Michael Petrowicz and April & Lindsay Costa. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Friday, June 2, 2006, at 9 am from the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., Salem [Rt. 114 / 1-A] followed by his funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Blvd, Salem at 10 am.
