FALL RIVER… Hazel L. Hart, 79, of Fall River passed away December 13, 2022, at Southpointe Nursing Home.
Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Malcom E. and Doris (Wilson) Hart. She had been a lifelong resident of this city.
Ms. Hart was a 1961 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School and went on to earn a Certificate from the former Campbell’s Business School in New Bedford. She started her work history with the Fall River Credit Bureau before moving on to working as an assembler for the former Litton Industries for 18 years. Hazel was most recently best known as being a School Crossing Guard for the Fall River Police Department whose duties included the intersection of Broadway and Rockland Street where she greeted students and parents daily during the school year. Hazel also worked for many years as a secretary and assistant for the Boyko Memorial Funeral Home, a job she inherited from her father when his health started to decline. She served countless families over the years.
Hazel was member of the First Baptists Church where she was a member of their Philathea Class and assisted for many years in the nursery on Sunday mornings. She also visited the former Church of the Ascension where her cousin was the pastor. In 1959, Hazel joined the former Loyal United Sisters Lodge, now the Loyal United Sisters & Brothers Lodge. She was a member of the Odd Fellows, Manchester Unity for 63 years where she served as a past Grand Nobel, past District Deputy, past Provincial Grand Lady of the former Massachusetts Sub-District, past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the United States and was the permanent Secretary of her own lodge for many years and past Treasurer of the Massachusetts District. At the age of 21, she joined the Seekonk Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by many friends.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. following calling hours from 9:00A.M. – 11:00 A.M. at the BOYKO MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 709 Broadway, Fall River, MA. Interment in Dighton Unitarian Church Cemetery, Dighton, MA.
