Fransiscus Joseph “Joe” Wijnants, 95, of Anderson passed away on December 15, 2022 at his home following a brief illness.
He was born on September 29, 1927 in Oud-Turnhout, Belgium to August Wijnants and Maria Wouters- Wijnants.
He worked as precision gear grinder at IGW from 1972-1989. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Anderson. He was an avid painter and was a member of the Madison County Art Association. He loved his granddaughter and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed playing the accordion and listening to polka music.
He is survived by his daughter, Vicki King of Anderson; a granddaughter, Catherine (Geoffrey) Shaneyfelt of Middletown; a sister, Paula Wijnants-Pettit of Belgium; five great-grandchildren, Colby, Collin, Kennady, Koen, and Corbin; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a wife, Maria Ludovica Wijnants in 2017; a daughter, Maria C. Wijnants in 1982; a brother, Richard Wijnants; and two sisters, Philomeine Wijnants-Vervecken and Lenarda Wijnants-Sterkx.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00pm on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Anderson with Father Tom Metzger officiating. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12:00pm-1:00pm on Tuesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Madison County Art Association.
