Margaret B. "Peg" O'Brien, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Forestdale Park Senior Living in Malden. She was 85 years of age.
Peg was born in Boston on July 21, 1937, a daughter of the late John McLaughlin and Mary (Harrington) McLaughlin. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended St. Catherine's Parochial School and Charlestown High School. Peg worked as a Mail Clerk for Fleet Bank for several years but had also worked for Schraffts Candy Company in Charlestown and Filenes Warehouse in Somerville. She enjoyed going to the beach, traveling, but most of all she loved her grandchildren. She was the Queen of the Charlestown Dunkin Donuts and could be seen there on any given day. Peg was a very proud woman and an especially proud Townie.
Peg is the beloved wife of the late James H. O'Brien. She is the devoted mother of James M. O'Brien and his wife Linda, Edward J. O'Brien and his wife Maureen and Kerry A. Gover and her husband Brian. She is the loving grandmother of Matthew O'Brien, Jennifer O'Brien, Caroline O'Brien, Jamie O'Brien, Connor Gover, and Colin Gover. She is the dear sister of the late Richard "Punchie" McLaughlin, Mary Mellino, Anna Quinn, Kay Baker, Betty Housman, Jack McLaughlin, and Billy McLaughlin. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Anne McLaughlin and many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Peg's Funeral on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 A.M. in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Her burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Her visiting hours will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022 from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
