James Clayton “Bo” Gibbs, 78, of Ben Hill County, Georgia, died Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, December 18, 2022, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Ike Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Gibbs was born September 30, 1944, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Clayton & Abbie Tomberlin Gibbs. He was a 1962 graduate of Fitzgerald High School and attended Darton College. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War as a cargo jet HVAC technician at Charleston Air Force Base in Charleston, South Carolina. Mr. Gibbs worked in the finance business for over 40 years managing loan companies including Consolidated Loan and Colony City Finance. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, reading, and shooting pool. He loved spending time with his grandchildren who lovingly called him Papa Bo. He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Wilcox County.
He is survived by his children: Corey Gibbs & Mandy of Fitzgerald and Lori Bagwell & Trey McWhorter of Owensboro; grandchildren: Lauralee Williams & Matthew, Lendley Gibbs, Jake Gibbs, Lily Bagwell and Clayton Bagwell; and the mother of his children: Annette Branam Gibbs of Cordele. Many loving nieces and nephews, who called him Uncle Bo, also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Jane Watson, Jackie Gibbs, and Shirley Vassey; and a brother, Lamar Gibbs.
