Joseph Raymond Forrand, aged 83 years, died peacefully on December 13, 2022 at South Shore Rehabilitation Center in Rockland.
Loving husband of the late Frances R. Forrand (Hurley). Beloved father of David A. Forrand and his wife Ruth, of Pawtucket Rhode Island, Eric M. Forrand and his wife Diane, of Holbrook MA, and Denise E. Leth (Forrand) and her husband Corey, of Kingston MA. Devoted grandfather to Matthew and Melissa Forrand of Holbrook and Ellery and Egan Leth of Kingston. Joseph was the son of the late Joseph and Ellenor (Morrill) Forrand. He was the loving brother of the late James Forrand and his wife Susan, Jerold Forrand and his late wife Kathy, and Marilyn (Forrand) Burke and her husband Steven. He was also a devoted brother-in-law to Barbara (Hurley) Childs and her husband Denis.
Joseph grew up in Abington MA, graduating from Abington High School in 1958. He later joined the Army and served his country from 1959 to 1962, being stationed in France, Germany and England. He then married his wife Frances in 1965 and made a home in Whitman where they lived until their deaths.
Joe was a computer programmer for Pneumatic Scale in N. Quincy for over 25 years. He was an avid bowler, bowling on many adult leagues at Timber Lanes in Abington. He also was the league’s Secretary for many years and even worked part time at Timber Lanes in his retirement. Joe enjoyed Sunday card games with friends and family, traveling with his wife & best friends Dave & Pam Boudreau, and chatting with the other vets at Harvard Court. Joe was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends and he was an expert wall-paperer!
Joe was a cancer survivor and often praised Dana Farber Cancer Institute for their role in his survival. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joe’s name to Dana Farber’s Jimmy Fund.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday December 20, at the MA National Cemetery at 12:30 PM, departing from the Chapel at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held Monday December 19, in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) in Whitman, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM.
