Kenneth R. D’Ambra, 67

Dateline: Athol, MA

Kenneth R. D’Ambra, age 67, of Athol, a former longtime resident of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully at his residence on Sunday, December 11, 2022. He was the loving longtime companion of Jean DePillo, with whom he made his home.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island on June 11, 1955, he was a loving son of the late Frank K. and Dorothy M. (DeCristofaro) D’Ambra.

Ken grew up in Mansfield and was a 1973 graduate of Mansfield High School. Prior to retiring, he was bravely employed as a firefighter for the City of Boston and was stationed at Grove Hall, in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston for over twenty-five years.

Ken’s family and friends were the most important part of his life, especially his grandchildren whom he loved and adored dearly. He was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield, a motorcycle enthusiast, loved fast cars and treasured the times fishing with his brothers and sons on Cape Cod.

In addition to Jean, he is survived by his devoted children: Casey Hubert and her husband Zach of Montague, MA, twins John D’Ambra, Sr. and his wife Jen of Winchester, NH and Eric D’Ambra of Montague, MA and Rebecca D’Ambra of Winchester, NH and Michael DePillo of Mansfield. He was the cherished and proud grandfather of Calley, Jackson, Silas, Hunter, Lilith, John, Jr. and Asher. He was the dear brother of Denise Albertini and her husband Joseph of North Attleboro, Craig D’Ambra and his spouse Thomas Ciliberto, Jr. of Woonsocket, RI, Gary D’Ambra and his wife Carol of Mansfield, Bruce D’Ambra and his wife Cynthia of Oxford, Jay D’Ambra and his longtime companion Bonnie Schulz of Mansfield and Dorothy D’Ambra and her longtime companion Mark Maguire of Foxborough. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours, with firefighter honors, on Saturday, December 17th from 2:00-5:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.

Funeral prayers will be held at the conclusion of visitation on Saturday at 5:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, Ken’s family has strongly requested that donations in his memory be made to the Boston Local 718 FF and Family Cancer Foundation. Checks made payable to Boston Local 718 Firefighter and Family Cancer Foundation, 173 Train Street, Dorchester, MA 02122.
