Retired Vice President of M.B.T.A. Carmen's Union Local # 589, James M. "Jim" Evers, a 30 year resident of Quincy and formerly of Charlestown and South Boston, entered into eternal life on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at his home in Quincy following an 8-year courageous battle with cancer. He was 75 years of age.
Jim was born in Boston on October 13, 1947, a son of the late Thomas Evers and Alice (McLeod) Evers. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. Jim began working at the M.B.T.A. as a Bus Driver and throughout his career he rose to become a Barn Captain then a Delegate and finally Vice President of the Carmen's Union Local # 589 which he retired in that position in 2007 following over 23 years of dedicated service to the union. He was a member of Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus.
Jim is the beloved husband of 43 years to Margaret A. (McDonough) Evers. He is the devoted father of Joan MacDonald and her husband Bobby, Debbie Miller and her husband John and President of M.B.T.A. Carmen's Union Local # 589 James M. Evers Jr. and his wife Sherry. He is the loving Grandfather of Rachel, Danielle, Alana, Dylan, James M. III, Hailey, Averi, Nicole, Megan and his great-grandchildren Nathan and Payton. He is the beloved brother of the late Edward Evers, Thomas Evers, Maureen Wedge, Thelma Spinney, Alice Corcoran and Evelyn Jones. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jim's Funeral on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be private. His visiting hours will be on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, from 4 to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
