Amelia M. (Ferreira) Sousa, 78, of Lowell,passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Lowell General Hospital with her family at her bedside. She was the beloved wife of Luis F. Sousa, with whom she shared married life for the past Fifty Nine years.
A daughter of the late Luis M. and the late Maria de Jesus (Raposo) Ferreira, she was born November 26, 1944, in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal and was raised and educated there. In September of 1993, she came to the United States with her family, making her home in Lowell. She worked as an assembler for E.M.A. Services until her retirement
She was a devoted communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, prayed the rosary daily, and loved attending services where her son, Deacon Carlos, officiated. The church and family were her center, she loved spending quality time with her children and grandchildren. She was an amazing cook and loved feeding her family whenever she saw them.
In addition to her loving husband, Luis Sousa of Lowell, she is survived by her daughter, Cidalia Tavares and her husband, Paulo, and their children, Gary and Derek Tavares of Lowell; her son, Luis DeSousa and his child, Raquel DeSousa of Fall River; her son, Silvino Sousa and his wife, Elisbete, and their children, Roberto, Ruben, and Ronaldo Sousa of Lowell; and her son, Deacon Carlos DeSousa and his wife, Elizabete, and their child, Ashley DeSousa of Lowell. She is also survived by her sister, Leontina Pereira of Canada; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings, the late Jose M. Ferreira and the late Maria da Gloria Silva

On Saturday, December 10, 2022 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 10:30a.m.- 12:30p.m. at ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH, 893 Central Street, Lowell, followed by her funeral mass at 12:30 p.m. in the church. Procession will follow for burial at St. Mary Cemetery.
