Edsel Umphlett Chapman, 90, of Wyassup Road, North Stonington, Connecticut took his final rest on December 4, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Lenora Chapman, as well as a Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather.
He was born on November 3, 1932, in Pawcatuck, Connecticut to Harold and Elsie Chapman. He was a graduate of Robert E. Fitch High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as an Auxiliary Machinist Mate aboard the USS SALERNO BAY and the USS HORNET. He was Honorably Discharged at the rank of Petty Officer First Class.
On August 15, 1959, Edsel married Lenora Piver in Ledyard and they moved to the house he built on Wyassup Lake, where they would remain through their entire marriage. Edsel was a Master Mechanic working at Soneco Service and retiring from Cherenzia.
Edsel is survived by his son, Steven and Pamela Chapman of Ledyard, CT. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Amanda and Nathan Ulch of Saratoga Springs, NY; Marissa Chapman of Groton, CT and Jordan Chapman of Groton, CT. In addition to his grandchildren, he leaves behind his great grandchildren, Hunter Ann, Lenora and Boden Ulch and Jayce Chapman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenora, as well as his brothers Harold W. Chapman Jr., Aubrey Chapman and his sister Dorothy Chapman and his parents.
Edsel will be remembered for his profound craftsmanship skills and depthless wit. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside service on Tuesday, December 13, at 12 Noon at Pendleton Hill Cemetery, located behind the First Baptist Church of North Stonington, 793 Pendleton Hill Road (corner of Wyassup Road and Pendleton Hill Road in North Stonington).
