Alma L. Thompson, 96

Alma L. (MacKenzie) Thompson, age 96, of Raynham, formerly of Mansfield, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday December 2, 2022 at the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital in Brockton. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph C. Thompson, Jr., to whom she was wed for nearly forty-six years at the time of his death on June 30, 1996.
Born in Quincy, MA on August 31, 1926, she was a loving daughter of the late Sherman & Alma (O’Neil) MacKenzie.
Alma grew up in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School. She went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts College of Art.
Mrs. Thompson had worked for many years as a News Correspondent for the Brockton Enterprise. She had made her home in Raynham for the past twenty years and previously resided in Mansfield.
Alma loved spending time with her adoring family. She was an ardent reader and loved sewing, making doll clothes for her grandchildren’s stuffed animals and drawing. When younger she had an interest in model airplanes and will always be remembered for the special place in her heart for her cat “Allie”.
She is survived by her devoted son Neal Thompson and his wife Carol of Norton. She was the cherished grandmother of Michael Thompson and his wife Cheryl of Florida and Jennifer Shaw and her husband Brendon of Somerset, and the great grandmother of Tyler Thompson of Florida, Calla Thompson of Florida and Madison Shaw of Somerset.
A service in celebration of her life will be held at a later date and place to be announced.
Visiting hours are omitted and burial will be private.
