CHICOPEE – Robert R. “Archie” Archambault, 88, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, December 2, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life from the Regal at Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born at home on Wilmont Street in Chicopee on January 13, 1934 a beloved son of the late Alphonse A. and Alice A. (Coderre) Archambault. He was raised in the Flats of Holyoke before moving to Chicopee. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War with the 11th Air Division of the Alaska Air Command at Ladd Air Force Base as a Radar Technician and Cold Weather Aircraft Test Operator supporting the F-89D Scorpions. He received the National Defense Service Medal and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was employed for over 37 years as an Electrical Test Engineer at Hamilton Standard a division of United Technologies in Windsor Locks, CT and retired in 1993. He was a longtime communicant of the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church and was currently a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church, both in Chicopee. Bob was a member of the Holyoke Revolver Club and a longtime licensed HAMM Radio Operator with the call-sign KA1JDY. He also was an avid photographer and also enjoyed working on his own vehicles, always willing to share his knowledge of all that he learned along the way. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Irene M. (Galat) Archambault. They were married on August 3, 1957 at Mater Dolorosa Church in Holyoke and they were blessed with over 65 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving and devoted daughters, Darlene I. Machia and her husband, James, of Chicopee, and Doreen A. Smith and her husband, Brian, of Enfield, CT; his four cherished grandchildren, James Machia, Jr. and his partner, Josette Before, Robert Machia and his partner, Anna Maziarz, Cassandra Capizzano and her husband, Connor, and Deidre Smith and her fiancé, Kyle Beaudreault; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his two dear sisters, Lucille Piorkowski and her husband, Joseph, and Lorraine Rogers and her husband, John. His Funeral will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
