WEBSTER – Dorothy N. “Dottie” (Pokraka) Cozzens, 89, died Thursday, December 1, 2022 at home after being stricken ill. Her husband of 45 years, John B. Cozzens, Sr., died in 2000.
She leaves 2 sons, John B. Cozzens, Jr. and his wife Mary Ann of Tarpon Springs, FL, and Eric C. Cozzens and his wife Christine “Tina” Cozzens of Webster; 3 grandchildren, John B. Cozzens III, Adam L. Cozzens and Crystal N. Cozzens; 3 great-grandchildren, Michael, Brooke and Christopher; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece and friend, Lenore “Lenny” Dragon who visited her at home often. She was preceded in death by her son Scot J. Cozzens in 1987, by her sisters Phyllis Naramore and Barbara Kupiec and by her brother Donald “Donnie” Pokraka.
She was born at home on Whitcomb Street on September 22, 1933, the daughter of Valley F. and Stella U. (Lisiewski) Pokraka and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Bartlett High School in 1951 and from the Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse.
Mrs. Cozzens worked for the Hubbard Regional Hospital as the Director of the Emergency Room before retiring. She also founded several clinics in the area.
She was a member of Saint Louis Church. Dottie enjoyed playing bingo and was a devoted fan of the New England Patriots, the Notre Dame University football team and the Boston Red Sox.
Her funeral will be held Friday, December 16, from the Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 15, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
