Doris P. (Ponte) Polycarpo, 96, of Dartmouth died November 18, 2022 peacefully after several years of battling heart disease. She rests in peace and love with God.
Doris was the wife of the late Lionel Polycarpo.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late John P. and Beatrice (Tetreault) Ponte, she lived in Dartmouth most of her life.
Formerly employed as a secretary for 35 years in the Dartmouth School System, Doris worked at Dartmouth High School, Dartmouth Middle SchooL and Gidley Elementary. After retiring from the Town of Dartmouth Doris continued working as a Job Coach for SMEC.
Mrs. Polycarpo was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church. She was a life long member of the St. Julie's Ladies Guild and received the Marion Medal from the Fall River Diocese for her service and dedication.
Throughout her lifetime Doris participated in many local clubs and organizations including the New Bedford Garden Club, Classy Ladies and the Don Hu Travel Club
Survivors include her 2 daughters, Maggie Wright and her husband Wayne and Joyce Esser; a brother, John Ponte; a sister, Carol Santos; 4 grandchildren, Sara Wright, Reilly Wright, Eric Esser and Gerard Polycarpo; 3 great-grandchildren, Odessa, Winslow and Waverly; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late David Polycarpo.
Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Julie Billiart Church in the summer of 2023.
