Lawson Eugene Hobby, 76, of Tifton passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Tifton’s First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chip Grantham officiating. Mr. Hobby will be laid to rest at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Rebecca at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Tifton’s First United Methodist Church from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Chuck Hobby, Chandler Hyman, Hank Hobby, Skip Hobby, Henry Hobby and Cleve Thompson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Turner County Class of 1964 and their spouses.
Born November 3, 1946, in Rebecca, Mr. Hobby was the son of the late Archie Lawson Hobby and Frances Hogan Hobby. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Glenda Hobby. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1969 and, before retiring, he worked as an Ag Chemical Manager. After retiring, he enjoyed building houses, and he was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Rebecca. Lawson never met a stranger and was loved by all.
Mr. Hobby is survived by his wife, Anne Maddox Hobby of Tifton; two sons and their spouses, Scott Lawson and Carson Hobby of Jacksonville, Florida, and John Henry III and Rachel Maddox of Richmond Hill; one daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Chip Hyman of Monroe; two brothers, Billy Hobby of Rebecca, and Wayne Hobby of Ashburn; and six grandchildren, Chandler Hyman, Emily Hyman, Mackie Hobby, Henry Hobby, Zoë Maddox and Poppy Maddox.
