Mildred (Millie) Evelyn Bertram (Green) shed the weight of her mortal skin on November 23, 2022, and sky dived into her next adventure. She was the beloved wife of the late Ralph "Toke" Bertram, who died in 2011. During her final hours, she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
She lived her life fully; with passion and an open heart, for her 77 years. And while she left us with deep sadness, she also left us with a treasure trove of memories, of laughter, and funny stories.
Millie was the youngest of 11, born to Alexander and Mary Green on June 27, 1945. She was raised in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge Latin High School; and went on to Bunker Hill Community College where she earned her associate degree in business landing her first career job at the Victor Coffee Company.
In 1975 she moved to Franklin, MA, with her beloved husband Toke where together they raised their blended family of five (Eric Bertram (2012), Kymberly Ippoliti (Menize), Brenda Moniz, David Menize and Kyle Bertram). She quickly made friends (you know who you are) and became an active part of the community. She was known for being a hard worker, using her business degree to begin her first company Millie’s uniform rentals and later began Millie’s Wallpaper and Paint, which she was well known for.
Those who knew Millie knew her as a woman who loved humor, silliness, adventures, storytelling, music, the performing arts, and thrill seeking. She never shied away from jumping out of a plane or bungee jumping from a 100-foot drop. Her story telling skills were remarkable, she would make you laugh so hard you thought you would literally die laughing. She was the pure definition of silliness. She loved telling jokes, playing games, doing puzzles, books on tape and playing cards. When she was too ill to move around, she loved watching everyone on Facebook.
Millie loved her children deeply and her grandchildren even more, Corey Bertram, Madison Crowley, Rachael Crowley, Connor Bertram, Samantha Bertram and Nathan Menize. She had the soul of a child, when she played with her grandchildren, she would become whatever age they were at the time. She gave them the love of the outdoors, thrill seeking and adventure. She has left them with the gifts of many years of memories, laughter, jokes (she actually wrote them down for them) and characteristics they can pass down to their children.
In lieu of flowers (she would tell you not to waste your money), please consider a donation in Millie’s honor to Franklin Elks #2136. She was the recipient of many of their elderly offerings and would greatly appreciate the continued support for her friends on Central Park Terrace.
For all who loved her, love those she loved, had fun with her, were friend, family, or foe; come celebrate her life well lived with us. Let’s send Millie off on her next adventure with that same lust for life that she brought to living it.
