Abraham Lincoln Heck Jr. Of Needham, died peacefully on Nov. 22, 2022. He was born in August 1932 in Hackensack, NJ to Kathryn A. and Abraham Lincoln Heck Sr. and raised in Tarrytown, NY and then spent his adult life in Newton and Needham, MA. While he was a high school math teacher in the Newton Public Schools, his true vocation was that of sharing and witnessing about the Catholic faith. Lincoln, (or Abe as he was known to Needham friends) was a communicant at St. Joseph’s Parish and involved with bible study and a member of the secular Franciscans. He particularly enjoyed fellowship with the members of the Men’s Theological Breakfast group, where he was fondly known as “Liam O’Heck”. Prior to his retirement and move to Needham, he was a parishioner at Mary Immaculate of Lourdes in Newton Upper Falls and played guitar for their folk Mass and was a leader in the charismatic group at the Cenacle in Brighton.
Lincoln is survived by his children: Maria Swanson (Joel) of Sewickley, PA: Paul of Washington DC: and Lisa of Hyde Park, MA as well as beloved grandchildren William Swanson, Kathryn Swanson, Ben Swanson, Rose Swanson, Gabriel Heck, Yvette Heck, Joy Christman (Mark), Thomas Heck, Alexander Heck and Christian Heck. He was proud to be a doting great grandfather to Myalise and Jaliyah Green-Heck, Serenity and Aiyanna Christman-Heck, and Dove and Kane Heck. His wives, Priscilla Gooding Heck and Lydia Casavant Heck, and brothers Frank and Harry predeceased him; Lincoln is survived by his sister Kathryn H. Begley (Robert) of New Jersey and sister-in-law Ann G. Denmark (George) of Cape Cod and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave., Needham on Sunday, Nov. 27 from 3-6pm. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Monday, Nov. 28 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, Needham at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham.
