PORTER- Carol Ann (West) Leavitt, age 77, passed away surrounded by her loving children, on November 21, 2022. She has moved on to be with the love of her life, her beloved husband Fred.
Carol was born February 10, 1945, to Gordon and Velma West. She was an only child. She spent many wonderful days at West Farm. Carol was an adventurer from the time she was a young adult, off with her husband to Mississippi for his basic training. Then off to Patrick Air Force Base in Florida where she had her first son, John.
They moved back to the northeast when Fred was discharged from the Air Force. They lived in Kingston, New Hampshire and had their second son, Dan. They also met a life-long friend.
Eventually the call of Kezar Falls was too loud to shut out. They moved back to Kezar Falls and fell into small town life. Surrounded by many friends and family, they raised their boys. Then came their third child, Lindsey.
Carol worked for the local insurance agency and then went to work for SAD 55. Carol also served as a spare bus driver so she could attend away soccer games. She loved Sacopee and became a school board member after she retired. She served proudly as a representative for Porter. She wanted only the best for all children at Sacopee Valley schools.
Carol and Fred took several amazing trips. They always included friends and their children’s friends…the more the merrier. Train trip to Florida for one of the many Disney trips, racing trips across New England and Canada following Gardiner and the 1X, Carol’s trip to England as a soccer mom chaperone, New York thrills, coast to coast trips, by bus, train, plane, or van- didn’t matter what the transportation was, just go.
Carol and Fred’s Red House was known by all as a welcome place to visit and take up a couple of hours after work or after school. Everyone was welcome. There was always a snack available as well as a drink.
Christmas was a very special time to Carol. She began an annual Leavitt Christmas Party in December 1994. It started as a group of 7 children and grew a little larger every year. Santa’s arrival was highly anticipated each year.
Carol was an amazing wife, mother, Nan, and friend. She counseled anyone in search of advice or listened if they needed to talk. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, ride, or yummy treat. Carol loved to sew as well so there are many quilts out there with Carol’s love built in.
Carol is predeceased by her husband-Fred Leavitt who passed away in January 2009.
Carol is survived by her children, John Leavitt and his wife Allison Ireland, Dan Leavitt, and Lindsey Leavitt. Also Claudio Valenzuela, of Chile. Grandchildren-Jackson Glen Leavitt, Brady West Leavitt, Gordon Robert Leavitt. And all Carol and Fred’s “adopted” children as well.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 28th at 12:00 at Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home in Cornish. Burial to follow at the Leavitt Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made in Carol’s honor to the New England Border Collie Rescue.
