Joan F. (Cadigan) Ryan, 81, of Tewksbury, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at her home. She was the widow of the late James J. Ryan Jr. who passed away in 2009.
Joan was born in Boston on May 30, 1941 and was a daughter of the late Timothy and the late Josephine (Shanahan) Cadigan. She was raised and educated in the Charlestown area.
In her younger days, she worked for Schrafts Candy in Charlestown, and then a printing company in Somerville before marrying the love of her life and starting their family. She loved shopping, playing online games, and keeping in touch with everyone on social media. She loved the company of her neighborhood and enjoyed spending Sundays having dinner with her son, Jim and his family. Above all else, spending time with her family brought her the most happiness.
She is survived by her son, James Ryan and his wife, Karen of Tewksbury; her three grandchildren, Walter Nadeau and his wife, Kelly of Wilmington, Kerry Pavidis and her husband, Sean of Billerica, and Robert Ryan of Tewksbury; her great grandchildren, Arianna, James, Joshua, Celine, Vivienne, Charlotte, Jacqueline, and Allison; her sister, Maureen Francis of Tewksbury; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joan was also the mother of the late Joan F. Ryan, “Joni” who passed away in May 2021; sister of the late Ann Richards, the late Catherine Homer (who was her twin), the late Eileen McGlinchey, and the late Timothy Cadigan.
On Sunday, November 27, 2022 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 2-6 p.m. at Tewksbury Funeral Home, 1 Dewey Street, Tewksbury, 978-851-2061. On Monday morning her funeral will begin at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Her funeral mass will be offered at 10 a.m. at St. Williams Church in Tewksbury, followed by burial at Fox Hill Cemetery in Billerica.
