Virginia M. (Centrella) Scalfani, age 77, of Medford passed away on Saturday, November 19th, in Massachusetts General Hospital of Boston. A lifelong Medford resident, she was the daughter of James V. Centrella and the late Constance N. (Baricelli) Centrella. Virginia was employed for many years as a book binder in the publishing industry.
Virginia loved spending time with her family, and after the passing of her mother became the family matriarch. She had a green-thumb and enjoyed working in her garden. Virginia also loved to cook, and would often listen to music while working in the kitchen.
Virginia was the beloved wife of Frank Scalfani, and the devoted mother of Keri Polinchak and her husband Robert of Medford, Marla Cantone and her husband Joseph of Everett, and Nicole Scalfani of Medford. She was the loving grandmother of Sean Scalfani and the dear sister of Ann Faulkner and her husband James, Marie Campbell and her late husband John, Terry Poehlman, Carol Yeshilian and her husband Robert, Joseph Centrella, and Loretta Mallardo and her husband Frank. Virginia is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Tuesday, November 29th at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with family on Monday, November 28nd from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
