Juliette A. "Judy" (Poyant) Berthiaume, 80, of New Bedford died November 19, 2022 surrounded by her family. She passed after a long courageous battle with corticobasal degeneration, a rare brain disease.
She was the wife of the late Emilien "Pete" Berthiaume.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Maurice and Irene (Gaudette) Poyant, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She was formerly employed by the New Bedford Juvenile Court for 27 years until her retirement.
Judy loved to have fun. Anyone lucky enough to be around her would know how much of a good time she was. She enjoyed shopping, entertaining and staying trendy.
Judy was an amazing mom, Mem, sister, aunt and friend. Her grandchildren adored her. What happened at Mem’s, stayed at Mem’s.
Survivors include her son, Peter Berthiaume and his companion Patty Boucher Allen of New Bedford; 2 daughters, Dr. Renee Reis and her husband David of New Bedford and Nicole Vaccari and her husband James of Dartmouth; her longtime companion, Francis "Greg" Dennehy; a brother, Leonard Poyant and his wife Anita of New Bedford; 3 sisters, Gloria Richard-Chartier and her husband Armand of Acushnet, Nina Poyant of South Carolina and Charlotte Fredette and her husband Paul of Dartmouth; 8 grandchildren, Samuel Berthiaume, Margaux Berthiaume, Skylah Reis, Raquel Reis, Tatum Reis, Piper Reis, Dominic Vaccari and Cassidy Vaccari; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 26th at 10 AM at Grace Episcopal Church. The public is invited to meet directly at church Saturday morning. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 25th from 2-6 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, please have a martini in her honor.
