Glen J. Blanchard

Chicopee – Glen J. Blanchard, 57, a Chicopee resident passed away on Nov 17, 2022. Glen was born in Holyoke on July 13, 1965. He endured a challenging journey against cancer with courage and dignity, always a gentlemen. Glen graduated from Chicopee High School and Westfield State University. He retired from the Chicopee Police Department in 2018. Glen was a dedicated Red Sox fan, dog owner, trainer and breeder of Llewellin setters and beagles. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. The outdoors were Glen’s passion and he was mentored by the best, his grandfather George A. Blanchard. However, Glen’s greatest passion was his love for Emma and Grace who he cherished and guided as a loving, devoted father. He was predeceased by his mother Dorothy M. (Jennix) and his father George J. Blanchard. Glen is survived by his two daughters, Emma and Grace Blanchard; sister, Cheryl Wheeler; niece, Sarah Wheeler and nephew, Aaron Wheeler; brother, Shawn Blanchard, cousin, Judith Segzdowicz Chelte, and longtime friend, Robert Talbot and his wife Carol. In addition he leaves Richard Fortier, Marc Schuerfeld, Kevin Cavanaugh, James Grise, William Lynch, Paul Cantin, Robert Lockett, Joseph Hohol, Kevin Bunyan, Bruce Carter and Bryon Sanders. Glen was blessed with the presence of many other friends and colleagues who supported him throughout his journey. The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Carlos Fernandez–del Castillo of Mass General Hospital, Dr. Timothy Johnson and the staff at Sr. Caritas Oncology Center and the medical and nursing staff at Mercy Medical Center. Glen will be sadly missed but never forgotten. A Funeral Service will be held on Sat, Nov 26, 2022 9:45 AM at Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St. Chicopee followed by a Mass of Christian Liturgy at 11 AM in Holy Name of Jesus Parish in the Assumption Church, 104 Springfield St., Chicopee with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Fri, Nov. 25, 2022 from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Donations may be made in Glen’s memory to the Sister Caritas Oncology Center at Mercy Medical Center 271 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104.
