Otis L. Nichols, Sr., 82, of New Bedford died Thursday May 25, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Evelyn C. (Haskins) Nichols.
Born and raised in Statesville, North Carolina, the son of the late Tommie Lee and Lillie Mae (Weaver) Nichols, he lived in New Bedford for many years.
Mr. Nichols was formerly employed as a chef at UMass Dartmouth until his retirement.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a member of the Andrews-Dahill Post 1531 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include three sons, Otis L. Nick" Nichols, Jr. and his wife Carleatha of Dartmouth, Richard M. Nichols and his wife Jenny of Dallas, and James T. "Ted" Millsaps and his wife Tonda of Statesville; seven grandchildren, Kim Silva, Duane Hernandez, Brandon, Savannah, and Elliot Nichols, and Nicholas and Byron Millsaps; and three great-grandchildren.
He was the grandfather of the late Ross Hernandez.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 9:30 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial with military honors will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 6-9 PM.
