BELCHERTOWN – David L. Griffeth, Sr., 70, of Belchertown, was called to rest on November 11, 2022 after a valiant battle with brain cancer. He passed away at home surrounded by the care and love of his wife and sons. Dave was born in Jacksonville, FL on Friday, October 31, 1952, the first child of Leon H. and Erma E. (White) Griffeth of Chicopee. He was raised in Northern Maine and later in Chicopee, before moving to Belchertown with his own family in 1978. Dave served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Specialist Fourth Class and was recognized with the National Defense Service Medal and the Expert Grenade Ribbon. As a civilian he worked as a controls engineer for several companies in the Springfield/Hartford area, including the TLD Company and the Spencer Turbine Company in Windsor, CT. Dave was outgoing and a great conversationalist who will be remembered for his easy laughter (and quick reflexes). During his leisure time, Dave enjoyed playing his guitar and he looked forward to snowmobiling in Maine each winter. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. In addition to his loving parents, Dave leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Carol Ann (Blanchette) Griffeth. They were married on July 6, 1972 and were blessed with just over 50 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three devoted sons, David L. Griffeth, Jr. and his wife, Amy, of Piedmont, SC, Benjamin A. Griffeth of Greer, SC and Leonard M. Griffeth and his wife, Stacey Rybinski, of Travelers Rest, SC; his four cherished grandchildren, Nathaniel, Caroline, Lillian and Oliver Griffeth; his two dear sisters, Cheryl Appleton and her husband, Frank, of Granby and Judy Krause and her husband, Steve, of Myrtle Beach, SC; and his many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and numerous friends. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA, 01020, (funeral home will open at 7:45 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
