Obituary

Dionisios N. “Denny” Mantalvanos, 88, of Worcester died Tuesday, November 15th in Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his family. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Joyce (Collie) Mantalvanos; three children, Joann L’Heureux and her husband, Lance of Leicester, Nikolaos Mantalvanos and his wife, Jill of Leicester, and Georgios Mantalvanos and his fiancée, Crystal of Charlton; two brothers; two sisters; five grandchildren, Angela, Jennifer, Katarina, Stephen, and Danny; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four siblings.
He was born in Greece the son of Nikolaos and Stavroula (Theotakotos) Mantalvanos and was one of nine children. Denny was a Merchant Marine with the Greek military. Denny immigrated to the United States in 1965 and began working as a chef. He retired at the age of 80 from Sodexo Food Service at Clark University and previously worked at several area restaurants. He was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Denny was an avid sports fan but specifically enjoyed Chicago teams. He was known for his green thumb, always having amazing flower and vegetable gardens. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and cherished the time he was able to spend with them.
Visitation is Monday, November 21st from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street with his funeral service at Noon. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 300 Barber Avenue, Worcester, MA 01606.
