WORCESTER___John P. Daly Jr., age 87, of Worcester, passed away peacefully at home on November 12, 2022. John was born in the Vernon Hill neighborhood of Worcester on October 13, 1935 and was a first generation American.
He was the son of John P. Daly, Sr. and Julia M. (O'Connor) Daly, proud, hard-working Irish immigrants. He graduated from St. Stephen’s High School in 1953. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and served honorably until his discharge in 1956. He also graduated from Worcester State College in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.
John was an elementary school teacher at the Union Hill and Greendale Elementary Schools in Worcester for 36 years before retiring in 1997. He loved being a teacher in the city where he was born and raised. After retiring from teaching, he enjoyed working part-time for Dirsa-Morin Funeral Home in Worcester when he wasn’t golfing. He was a long-standing member of the Men’s Senior League at Green Hill Municipal Golf Course in Worcester. He was also a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He dearly loved his family and never missed a grand child’s sporting event or music recital.
John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Adrienne M. (Longval) Daly, his son, Michael Daly and his wife Lisa of Lunenburg, MA, his daughter Joanne Maldari and her husband Paolo of Portsmouth, NH, and his son Kevin Daly and his wife Geri of Lincolnwood, IL, along with six grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Marguerite Ryan and her husband Gerald of New Jersey and many nephews and nieces, all of whom he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his sisters and brothers-in-law Ann and John Leary, Mary and John Shea, and Julia Cecilia and Thomas Derry.
Calling hours will be held Friday, November 18, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at DIRSA -MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street, Worcester. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday November 19, 2022 in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales Street, Worcester. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
