Mario Matos, 60, a longtime Lowell resident, passed away peacefully, Friday, November 11, 2022, at his home in Lowell with his family by his side after a courageous 10 year battle after suffering a stroke.
A son of the late Raymond Matos and the late Ana (Mendez) Matos, he was born in Manhattan, NY and was raised and educated in New York City. He came to Lowell in 1981 and has lived and worked in the Lowell area since then. He worked at the Bedford VA Hospital for a number of years and then worked at Salem Variety Store on Salem Street in Lowell. He was well known in the neighborhood for his association with Salem Variety for many years before his recent retirement.
Mario loved music and he loved to dance. He was a family man and a father figure to many over the years. He was the life of the party and everyone loved spending time with him, he had a wonderful sense of humor and he will be missed.
He is survived by his siblings, Raymond Matos of Haverhill, Maria Rodriguez and her husband, Felipe, of Cleveland, Ohio, Margarita Matos of Lowell and Anna Berrios and her husband, Jorge, of Lowell, many nieces and nephews, grandnieces grandnephews.
He was also predeceased by his brother the late Rafeal Matos.
You are welcome to attend his Funeral Mass on Monday, November 21 at St. Patrick Church in Lowell at 10 a.m. and procession to follow for burial at Westlawn II Cemetery.
