CHICOPEE – Frederick J. “Fred” Orwat, Jr., 74, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, November 14, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on August 31, 1948, a beloved son of the late Frederick J. Orwat, Sr. and Wanda (Mrozynski) Orwat. He was raised on Saint Anthony Street in the Willimansett section of Chicopee and graduated from Chicopee High School. He attended Holyoke Community College and had lived in the Aldenville section of Chicopee before moving to Fairview in 1979. He served his county in the United States Army National Guard. He was a residential and commercial painter and was employed for many years with the Garland Construction Company in Chicopee. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. During his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, attending many antique car shows and staying at his camp in Lake Champlain. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Barbara A. (Young) Orwat. They were married on September 20, 1969 at Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 53 years of happiness together. He also leaves his daughter, Juliane M. Robert of Detroit, MI; his cherished grandchildren, Jason and his spouse, Stephanie, Joseph, Brandon and Shay; his dear sister, Joanna V. Frost and her spouse of Chicopee; his dear brother-in-law, Edward C. Young of Albany, NY; his dear sister-in-law, Karen Young of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear brother-in-law, George W. Young; and his dear sister-in-law, Judith Young. His funeral services will be private and his burial will be private at Sainte Rose Cemetery in Chicopee. There are no visiting hours. His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
