CHICOPEE – Edna R. (Gosselin) Cygan, 96, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, November 11, 2022. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Easthampton on October 14, 1926, a beloved daughter of the late Camille and Evelyn (Beauchemin) Gosselin. She was raised in Easthampton and moved with her family to Chicopee in 1929 where she was educated and lived the remainder of her life. She was employed as a Coil Winder at the former F.W. Sickles Company and had later worked at Superbrush and Eastern Etching, all in Chicopee. She was a communicant of the Basilica of Saint Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr in Chicopee where she also was a member of the Parish Rosary Society and volunteered her time as a bingo worker. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Edward J. Cygan who was Called Home on December 3, 1993. They were married on September 20, 1952 at the former Saint George Church in Chicopee Falls and were blessed with over 41 years of happiness together. She leaves her three loving children, Robert E. Cygan and his wife, Diane, and Deborah E. Sawyer and her husband, Richard, all of Chicopee and Patricia L. Sawyer of Suffield, CT; her six cherished grandchildren, Cynthia L. Newsome and her husband, Jedd, Thomas R. Cygan and his wife, Kelly, Renee L. Suckau and her husband, Michael, Brandon R. Sawyer and his wife, Kate, Bryan J. Sawyer and his partner, Jordan Marquis, and Rebekah L. Sawyer and her partner, Adam Paradis; her six cherished great grandchildren, James, Hailey, David and Hannah Newsome and Ethan and Owen Cygan; her dear sister in law, Helen Banas of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Cygan and Gosselin families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her loving son in law, John Sawyer who was Called Home on April 23, 2017; and her dear sister, Yvonne R. Bienvenue who was Called Home on October 30, 2009. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at the Basilica of Saint Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr, 570 Front Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 18, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
