Barbara A. (Walker) Rose, age 86, of Mansfield passed away at Grace Barker Nursing Home in Warren, Rhode Island on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. She was surrounded by her loving daughters, Deborah Chartier and Karen Caldwell, and son William Rose, Jr. She was born on July 4, 1936.
Barbara’s early childhood schooling began at the St. Ambrose School in Fields Corner, Dorchester. She graduated from Cardinal Cushing High School in South Boston, class of 1954. She obtained her Associates Degree from Massasoit Community College, Brockton.
Barbara balanced parenting while oftentimes working the third shift at Foxboro State Hospital, and later in her career at the Wrentham Developmental Center with the title of Developmental Specialist. After retirement, she volunteered her services to the Mansfield Music & Arts Society, the Mansfield Town Hall, and town polling stations during elections.
Her hobbies included roller skating which ultimately led to a blind date with her future husband, William Rose, Sr. whom she wed in 1958. They eventually settled in Mansfield on Branch Street after renting for a couple years in Canton. Other hobbies through the years were attending yard sales and auctions, as well as nights out enjoying performances of their favorite band, The Jack D’ Johns. Post-retirement summers also included trips to the Cape summer cottage in West Yarmouth with the grandkids.
Barbara is predeceased by her loving husband, William Rose, Sr., her mother, Josephine L. Malone-Walker and father, John E. Walker, brothers, John Walker and Jim Walker of Louisiana, sister Mary Walker Davis and brother-in-law Jim Davis of Connecticut, and sister-in-law, Mary E. Rose. Also predeceased by Albert & Lester McGoldrick her Eddy Street neighbors who were oftentimes her surrogate brothers and grandfathers to the Rose children, whose lifelong friendship she always cherished. She leaves behind her loving daughters, Karen Caldwell and husband Kevin Caldwell of South Kingstown, RI, and Deborah Chartier and partner, Elizabeth Kutcher of Warren, RI, and son William Rose, Jr. and wife, Randi Rose of Norwood. Barbara also leaves behind her brothers Tom Walker of ME, and Edward Walker of Canton, and sister, Margaret Walker Jones of Ft. McCoy, FL, and former sister-in-law Helen Walker of Canton. Also, longtime friends Betty Blais of Millis and Lorilee Fish of Mansfield. Barbara leaves behind her loving grandchildren, Daniel Rose of Dedham, Genevieve Rose of
Charlestown, Veronica Rose of Chelsea, Nathaniel Chartier of Warren, RI and Noah Chartier of Seattle and several loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, November 13th from 3:00-6:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, November 14th at 1:00 P.M. at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, 1 Franklin Street in Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Barbara’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
