Husband to Anne Dana; Dad to Dawn, Debra, Kathi, Loren; Grandpa to Ashlee, Taylor, Sydney, Dylan, Jonah, Julian, Lulo; Great Grandpa to Carter, Nathan, Amelia, Jade, Lainey, Liam, Lillian, Jax, Novalee, Cleo; Brother to Denny and Dorothy, Darlene and Kirk; Uncle to Laurie, Cindy, Mark, Pam, Matthew, Heather, and Jennifer; Brother-In-Law to Anne’s sister and six brothers, and uncle to their many children; and Grandpa or Uncle Dave to countless friends, relatives, neighbors, and dogs.
Dave was born in Long Beach, CA, July 3, 1941, and passed away in Ventura, CA, on November 2, 2022.
He graduated from Monrovia-Duarte High School, worked in construction for almost 20 years, and then for over 20 years was lauded by many as the best commercial fisherman in Ventura.
Dave was truly a Renaissance man ~ excelling in everything he chose to do: fishing- commercially and sport; bowhunting; treasure hunting- metal detecting, scavenging for prehistoric sharks’ teeth and other fossils, gold mining and panning; hiking; gardening; befriending birds, dogs, and other critters; building things, fixing things, and just plain tinkering. He rebuilt antique cars and designed and built, from start to finish, two of his commercial fishing boats.
Dave was tough and smart with a rugged pioneering spirit; more walk than talk; tough-skinned and soft-hearted; kind and caring (in his own special way). Like Waylon and Willie and his brother Denny, one of “The Last of the Breed.”
We, his family, are deeply grieving his loss and so very grateful to have had him in our lives.
We are so sad and yet we know God gave us a beautiful world.
