Roger P. Levesque, 83, of New Bedford passed away Friday November 4, 2022 after a brief illness.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Maurice and Germaine (Destremps) Levesque, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Bentley College of Accounting and Finance.
Roger began his long career in banking in 1960 with Bank of New England. In 1969 he joined the newly formed Southeastern Bank and Trust in New Bedford where he served as Senior Vice President and Controller, continuing with Bank of Boston after a merger. He later was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the National Bank of Fairhaven. He also served for a time as the Treasurer for the Town of Gosnold. After retiring from banking, Roger was employed as the general manager of Nantucket Island Rent A Car for 18 years from 2004-2022.
He was a former member of the National Association of Accountants, and a former director of New Bedford Child and Family Services and the Elizabeth Islands Association.
He is survived by his sister, Dr. Jeanne M. Bonneau; his niece, Kathryn LaRochelle and her husband Jason; his nephew, Frank Souza and his wife Paula; his niece, Michelle Niemi and her husband Jay; four great-nieces and three great-nephews; and two great-great-nieces and a great-great-nephew.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Maurice Levesque, Jr. and Suzanne M. Levesque, and his nephew, Derek Levesque.
His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday November 9th at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
