Priscilla Nevers Howker, 96, died peacefully at home November 1, 2022. Her family cared for and was with her in recent days.
Priscilla was born and grew up in Whitefield, New Hampshire. She had three brothers (Ashley, Robert, George) and a sister Elizabeth all which predeceased her. She met her husband, John James Howker, at the University of New Hampshire, Durham which she graduated from. John attended the University of New Hampshire and the University of Connecticut. They lived in Terre Haute, Indiana for a short period then settled in Medway, Massachusetts in 1954 and lived there thereafter.
In the 1960’s Priscilla was active in politics as a member of the League of Women Voters. Priscilla was head librarian for the Town of Medway. She later was very active in the Medway Historical Society. Grace Hoag and Priscilla wrote an Images of America book on the town of Medway pre-1960. She also contributed to a follow-on book about Medway after 1960. The family always enjoyed their summer vacations at a camp on Peacham Pond, Vermont.
Priscilla's husband John James Howker died in 1999. She leaves four children, John of Louisville Kentucky, Martha of Medway, Thomas and Lynn of Monmouth Maine and Lorna and Bob Clark of Yarmouth Maine. She has three grandchildren, Neil, Elizabeth, Alison and one great grandchild, Quinn.
Internment at Woodbine Cemetery West Meadow Road, Lowell, MA will be family-only.
Donations in Priscilla’s memory may be given to Medway Historical Society or a charity of one’s choice.
