WEBSTER – Muriel C. (St. Germain) Schmidt, 93, died Monday, October 31, 2022. Her husband of 48 years, Roger Schmidt, died in 1998.
She leaves her daughters, Jane E. Neslusan, and husband Dennis of Webster, and Ann L. Schmidt DVM and husband Richard DeWolf of Dudley; grandchildren, Daniel Neslusan of Brookline, NH, Sarah Neslusan Reynolds and her husband Austin of Los Angeles, CA and Eli DeWolf of Dudley; a sister, Lorraine Parmentier of CT; a brother-in-law, Alwin Schmidt of Sturbridge; her dearest friend, Johanna Neslusan of Webster; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Marilee DeWolf and by her siblings Clarence, Estelle, William, Wilfred, Jeanette, Virginia, Roland, Eleanor and Lucille.
She was born in Webster on November 23, 1928 the youngest of the 11 children of Henri and Palmena (Girard) St. Germain. She graduated from Bartlett High School in 1947 where she was the accompanist for the Bartlett High School Glee Club.
Muriel first worked as a secretary at the American Optical Company in Southbridge, and then as a teller for the First National Bank in Webster before leaving to raise her family. With her husband Roger she owned Schmidt Equipment in North Oxford, retiring in 1998.
She was a faithful attendee of the First Congregational Church of Dudley and a member of the L’Apres-Midi Club, The American Morgan Horse Association and the Carriage Association of America.
Muriel deeply loved her family, homestead and her many animals. She was a talented seamstress, crafter, cook and pianist, skills which brought enchantment to every holiday. She shared her husband’s passions for sailing on Webster Lake and for raising their Morgan horses. She and Roger delighted the neighborhood children when they drove their antique carriages, hitched to their matched pair of Morgans. In her later years she was an avid walker, famous for her six mile daily treks, and at the age of 90 she danced the night away at her granddaughter’s wedding.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 16, in the First Congregational Church of Dudley, 135 Center Road, Dudley, with Pastor John R. White officiating. Burial will be private in Lakeside Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
