CHICOPEE – Robert C. Hartmann, better known as “Grumpy” to his family and many friends, 82, of the Sandy Hill section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, October 31, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on October 27, 1940, a beloved son of the late Frederick and Marion (Miles) Hartmann. He was raised in Holyoke, graduated from Sacred Heart High School and attended Western New England College and moved to Chicopee in 1966. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Coast Guard and attained the rank of Electronics Technician First Class. He continued his career as an Electronic Technician at Pratt and Whitney in Windsor Locks, CT and then was employed at Kidder-Stacy in Agawam. He was a longtime communicant of the former Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee where he served his parish as an usher. Following the closure of his beloved parish, he was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. Grumpy was an avid bowler who met the love of his life, Diane R. (Labrie) Hartmann, at the Holyoke Ten Pin Lanes in 1960. They were married on September 28, 1963 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Holyoke and they were blessed with over 59 years of happiness together. He also leaves his four loving children, Denise L. Lepage and her husband, James, of Chicopee, Christopher M. Hartmann and his wife, Jeanne, of Southwick, Michelle L. Jackson and her husband, Timothy, of Vail, AZ, and Jennifer R. Lingenberg and her partner, Erik Liljegren, of West Springfield; his 10 cherished grandchildren, Steven Lepage, Michael Lepage and his partner, Calleigh Wile, Emily Graves and her husband, Mitchell, Lauren Hartmann, Lindsay Hartmann, Drew Jackson and his partner, Nicole Gonzalez, Andre Jackson and his wife, Kaylee, Maya Jackson, Isaiah Jackson, and Jessica Lingenberg; his dear brother, Jeffrey Hartmann of Southampton; his dear sister, Barbara Ellison and her husband, Howard, of Lawrenceburg, KY; his dear brother-in-law, Roger Labrie and his wife, Susan, of Miramar Beach, FL; his dear sister-in-law, Theresa Scytkowski and her husband, Dave, of Plano, TX; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving grandson, Justin Lingenberg who was Called Home on July 29, 2019, and his dear sister-in-law, Susan Hartmann. His Funeral will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial with United States Coast Guard Military Honors will be private at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 4, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
