Obituary

Murphy, Robert "Bob" Leo 91, of South Natick, MA, and Naples, FL, formally of Wellesley, MA, died at home Sunday October 30, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones. Bob was the son of the late James Joseph Murphy and Margaret Nagle Murphy. 

Born January 26, 1931 in Dorchester Massachusetts. He was a graduate of Harvard University, class of 1952, and a 1957 graduate of Harvard Business School. After graduating from Harvard, he served as an officer in the US Navy on the USS Joyce, a destroyer escort.

After his naval career, Bob served as the Chief Financial Officer of Signatron. While at Signatron he taught finance and accounting at Northeastern University. He later served as the Assistant Director of McLean Hospital, where he managed the financial affairs.

Murphy then became Chief Financial Officer of Northeast Petroleum Industries. During this time, he participated in a joint venture between Northeast Petroleum and Energy Corporation of Louisiana, managing the financing of the two largest refineries built in Garyville’s Louisiana. He also founded his own consulting firm called Stemor where he provided consulting services for a wide variety of firms in the medical and oil industries. He also served as the treasurer of a charitable foundation called Por Cristo, which provided medical care for children in Latin America. He also was the President of the Treasurers Club of Boston.
 
Bob was predeceased by his son Robert who died in 1971, his wife Nancy who died in 1988, and his daughter Moira who died in 2013.
 
Bob was a devoted and loving husband to Miriam Elliott Keefe to whom he married was to for 32 years. Bob had a true love of God, family friends and country. With a keen sense of humor, Bob had a zest for life and lived his life to the fullest. In addition to his loving wife Miriam, his son Stephen Nagle Murphy of Las Vegas, NV and his two-step daughters Colleen Lyons and Megan Walker and four stepsons, Jeremiah, Sean, Kevin, and Brendan Keefe. Bob is also survived by four grandchildren, Stephan and Johan Aguilar, and Amirah and Ariana Orozco and sixteen step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
 
He was a member of the Wellesley College Club, the Harvard Club of Boston, the Harvard Club of Naples, FL, Wellesley Country Club, and the Naples Beach and Golf Club. He also served as lector at St. John the Evangelist Church in Wellesley.

Visitation at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. (Rt.16) Wellesley, on Saturday morning from 9-10:30am followed by a funeral Mass at St. John Church, Wellesley Hills at 11am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Live stream of Mass available at sjspwellesley.org/sj/live/. Interment with military honors at St. John Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in Bob’s memory to St. John the Evangelist Church, 9 Glen Rd. Wellesley, MA 02481.
