Bruce Mandell, beloved husband and father passed away on Sunday October 23rd at his home in Ojai California following a courageous battle with Pancreatic cancer. Bruce was born in Sioux Falls SD to La Verne and Joseph Mandell on September 30th, 1943. Bruce grew up in Port Hueneme and attended Oxnard High School excelling at swimming and water-polo and graduated in 1961.
He went on to earn a BS in Psychology from University of La Verne. He served a 35 year career with Ventura County Fire Department where he retired as Fire Captain from Station 21 in Ojai. He also represented the department in the county's retirement board. He enjoyed traveling the world and camping at the beach with his wife Kathy. He had a love of classic cars and often attended events with his friends in the Santa Barbara Woody Club. He is survived by Kathy Mandell, his wife of 51 years, and Sons Allan Mandell of Madisonville TX and Nicholas Mandell of Ventura CA. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard Mandell, and son Michael Mandell. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. No funeral services are planned at this time, a celebration of life and scattering of ashes with close friends and family will be held at a later date.
